Abstract

Abstract This paper presents a new formulation for optimal real and reactive power dispatch for economic operation of electric power systems. As in other recent formulations, the problem is decomposed into a Q-optirnization module and a P-optimization module to minimize real power transmission losses and hourly fuel costs of thermal generating units, respectively. The formulation is based upon the approximations due to the well-known power system coupling principles.
