Abstract

Summary A general mathematical model is derived for the power semiconductors used as switching elements. Their different operating modes and physical properties, such as nonlinearity and power dissipation,are taken into consideration. It is shown, that the digital computation of a circuit, containing such elements,is possible without any preliminary knowledge of the circuit operation. According to this model,an equivalent circuit, which consists of resistors and ideal switches,is given for thyristors. In the model ideal switches are characterized as binary logic variables. During the computation the values of these variables are obtained from Boolean functions. The derivation of this model and its application to the analysis of an impulse-commutated inverter is presented.
