Abstract
Source driven problems for weakly non-separable wave guiding environments have been addressed in a number of ways. Data generated via various numerical codes occasionally led to confusion due to occurrence of discrepancies between them while apparently dealing with the same problem. A group of benchmark problems have been introduced [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 87 (4) April 1990 p.1497-1545] as a frame of reference wherein different approaches could be set to test and their respective merits could be assessed with some confidence. The present authors undertake one of these benchmark problems, the non-penetrable wedge and construct two and three dimensional Green's function representations in terms of intrinsic modes (IM). The numerical results indicate that IM formulations are capable of providing excellent approximations for Green's function problems associated with weakly non-separable wave guiding environments except for regions in the immediate vicinity of the sources. >
