The effect of beamforming to service outage probability in femtocell deployments

Abstract

It is possible to increase the system performance by using the smart antenna systems. Outage probability can be reduced and signal to interference and noise ratio can be increased without changing the transmit power. Power can be saved by keeping the system performance constant. In this paper, usage of omnidirectional versus smart antenna with beamforming are compared in terms of outage probabilities, the performance gain is quantified via simulation results. The effect of changing the number of the elements of the antenna array and the kind of beamforming on the outage probability is also investigated.
