Abstract
The forced ventilation of an office space was investigated in this study. Under steady conditions the three-dimensional equations of conservation of mass, momentum, energy, turbulent kinetic energy and its dissipation rate were solved under defined boundary conditions using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Besides using a flow analysis program, which is based on finite volume method, the air and temperature distribution in a closed office volume was investigated by experiments. The experimental sets up were designed as a physical model by selecting the scale factor as 3. Physical similarity was achieved by the equality of Archimedes number, which was used in determining the isothermal and non-isothermal airflow in closed spaces. Measurements with hot wire anemometers could achieve for the air change rate as 5. The isothermal and non-isothermal flow cases for the physical model were investigated by using a CFD program, by varying the location of the supply air opening. Results were presented in the form of velocity profiles, velocity contours and temperature contours and comfort conditions of the person were investigated. Besides these, the same air distribution patterns were obtained for physical model for the same Archimedes (Ar) number as expectedly. It was shown that the location of supply opening effect the air distribution pattern and temperature distribution in a closed ventilated room.
