Uzaktan Eğitim

Abstract

Günümüz hayat şartlarında uzaktan eğitim, toplum hayatında giderek daha önemli bir yer işgal etmektedir. Gerek eğitim kurumlarının herkese örgün öğrenim vermesi için fiziki altyapılarının yetersizliği, gerekse böyle bir işlemin yüksek maliyeti nedeni ile uzaktan öğrenime duyulan ihtiyaç giderek artmaktadır. Uzaktan eğitim için günümüze kadar çeşitli sistemler kullanılmıştır. Bunların en geniş kitleye ulaşanı ve bu nedenle en yaygın kullanılanı, her ne kadar iletişim yönünden zaaflar içerse de, televizyon ile yapılan ve Türkiye’de örneğini Anadolu Üniversitesi Açık Öğretim Fakültesi’nde ve Açık Lise uygulamasında gördüğümüz sistemdir. Ancak gelişen teknolojiler ışığında İnternet altyapısının güçlenmesi ve buna paralel olarak İnternet’e erişen kişi sayısındaki sürekli artış İnternet’in de uzaktan eğitim için faydalı bir araç haline gelmesini sağlamıştır. Bu tezin konusu eğitmen ve öğrencilere elektronik ortamda yapılacak eğitimin avantajlarından faydalanabilecekleri entegre bir uzaktan eğitim sistemi sunmaktır. Gelecekte İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi’ne uygulanabilecek nitelikte olan bu sistem, kullanıcılarına değişen eğitim dünyasının ihtiyaçlarına cevap verebilecek düzeyde, hem esnek bir yapı sağlamakta, hem de enteraktif öğelerden faydalanabilecekleri sanal bir ortam sunmaktadır. Sistem sadece kullanıcılarına doküman görüntüleme veya doküman yükleme gibi servisler sağlamakla yetinmeyip aynı zamanda kullanıcılarının kendi aralarında iletişimini de sağlama vazifesini üstlenmiştir. Bu çalışma, başlıca aşağıdaki konular hakkında bilgi içermektedir:  Uzaktan eğitim sisteminin tanımı, teorik temeli ve işleyişi.  Uzaktan eğitim sisteminin günümüz toplumundaki konumu.  Uzaktan eğitim uygulamalarına örnekler.  Teorik bir model geliştirilmesi.  Teorik modelin İ.T.Ü. End. Mühendisliği Bölümü’ne uygulanması.

In today’s life, distance learning has a big impact on the social life. The physical infrastructure of the conventional educational institutions is not sufficient to educate all the people of the country. Moreover, the cost of conventional education is getting higher and higher every day; that’s why the demand of the distance learning is raising every day. In the past, distance learning has been used with many systems. The most commonly used distance learning system held by TV, although it has a one-sided communication. Open Education Faculty, Anatolian University has been using TV system for many years. With the emerging technology, the infrastructure and the easy use of Internet made it the most important mean of the distance learning systems. The aim of this thesis is to provide students and instructors with an integrated system enabling them to benefit from the advantages of electronic distance learning system. In the future, İstanbul Technical University might develop and implement this system to provide a flexible and an interactive platform in accordance with the changing needs of students and instructors. Not only does the system allows its users to view and download all types of electronic documents but it also enables them to communicate with each other by using forums and similar third party components. This thesis reveals information about the topics indicated below:  The definition, theoretical background and usage of the distance learning system.  The distance learning in today’s life.  The examples of distance learning implementations.  Designing a theoretical model.  Implementation of the theoretical model to the İ.T.U., Department of Industrial Engineering.
