Mühendislik Yönetimi Öğrencilerinin Başarısına Etki Eden Faktörlerin Analizi

Abstract

Çalısmada, İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi tezsiz mühendislik yönetimi programındaki öğrencilerin başarısına etki eden faktörler açıklanmaya çalısılmıştır. Bu kapsamda 83 öğrencinin verileri kullanılarak lisans mezuniyet ortalaması, cinsiyet, ALES, yabancı dil yeterliliği, üniversite türü ile çalısma durumunun mezuniyet başarısına olan etkileri incelenmistir. İstatistiksel değerlendirmeler regresyon analizi kullanılarak yapılmış ve yorumlanmıştır. Analiz sonuçlarında dil sınavı sonucu ve lisans mezuniyet not ortalamasının öğrenci başarısını tahmin etmede etkili oldukları, ancak lisansüstü programlara öğrenci seçimlerinde en etkili kriter olarak değerlendirilen ALES sonuçlarının ise anlamlı bir etkisi olmadığı görülmüştür. Elde edilen veriler literatürdeki diğer çalışmalarla kıyaslanarak sonuçlar arasındaki fark ve benzerlikler açıklanmaya çalışılmıştır. Son olarak da öğrenci seçim asamasında yol gösterici olabilecek yorumlar yapılarak gelecek çalışmalar için yararlı olabileceği düşünülen birtakım öneriler sunulmuştur.

Effects of undergraduate GPA, gender, ALES, language proficiency, university type and work status on the student success analysed by using the data of 83 students. Dependent and independent variables and demographic distribution of the sample are explained with their usage in the model. Also, 6 hypotheses are defined with supportive studies from the literature. To explain the hypotheses, statistical evaluations contained regression analysis and its explanations. Results of this study confirm that language proficiency and undergraduate GPA are good predictors of success. However, it is concluded that ALES which is taken into consideration as the most effective factor during graduate student selections, does not have a significant effect. Also, gender which is shown as a significant predictor of the student success found to be insignificant. These conclusions are evaluated by the help of demographic distribution and are taken into consideration to make significant comparisons and explanations with the other studies. Finally, results are compared with other studies in literature and differences and similarities are explained. In conclusion, there are remarks for student selection stage with suggestions for future research.
