Nowadays, water pollution has become a serious problem. Zeolites are naturally occuring crystalline aluminosilicates with a threedimensional framework structure, their cavities are occupied by exchangeable alkaline and alkaline-earth metal cations. The microporous crystalline structure of zeolites is able to exchange ionic species that have diameters that fit through the entry ports of internal zeolite framework, while larger species are excluded, giving rise to ion sieving properties. This sieving property enhance using zeolite for pollution control, in particular they have noticeable potential to purify wastewater. The study aims treating of wastewaters originated from small enterprises. In the study, ion exchange capacities of clinoptilolite samples originated from Marsid, Gördes and Bigadiç regions were investigated for ammonium, lead and copper cations under dynamic conditions. For this purpose, experiments were contucted by using bench-scale fixed bed column operated under continious down-flow mode. Effect of flow rate, effect of initial concentration, effect of sample type and effect of competing ions on ion exchange were investigated throughout the study.Eventually regeneration studies were performed in order to reuse loaded clinoptilolite. Ion exchange capacities of each sample evaluated based on breakthrough curves. In the light of the study,Marsid clinoptilolite was found superior to other samples. It was found that, clinoptilolite has high selectivity for amonium and lead ions. It has been seen that, lower flow rates and lower initial concentration results in enhanced treatment.
